This selection of work was created while on residency in Iceland, sponsored by the Irish Arts Council. I investigated abandoned spaces and structures in a small fishing town called Skagaströnd close to the Arctic Circle. This work documents the mood I found in certain sites, and sometimes more specifically in buildings or vehicles. The works are inspired by the passage of time on both man made and natural structures and their past lives and history. The buildings, boats, and landscapes featured in these works have seen countless lives, tragedies, successes and failures. In these works, which were shown to the native townspeople on completion, I attempted to reveal the beauty and energy still alive in these abandoned spaces. |
