In September 2011 I undertook a four week residency in Kilkenny Arts Office. During this time I created new installation work, paintings, a number of drawings, and I also began a new video documentary. The Electron Cloud body of work revolves around the mythology of ley lines, energy fields and fairy rings: unscientific boundaries and spaces in the landscape. I attempt to investigate these mythical forces of energy by drawing similarities between them and the forces of physics such as magnetic forces, gravity, lunar tides, kinetic energy, and the repetitive shapes within particle physics and larger systems such as the solar system: so through this querying the reach and effect of particular superstitious beliefs in current society. The name Electron Cloud comes from a recently updated scientific diagram of the atom, in which the position of electrons in orbit of the nucleus can only be estimated rather than pinpointed due to their speed of travel, thereby appearing as a spherical cloud of estimated dots surrounding the nucleus. This project is ongoing, and will involve a documentary of Irish practitioners of water and energy divining in the landscape.
